After returning to work from seven months of maternity leave I’d lost any interest I may have once had for my Communications Assistant job in the NHS. I spent some time searching and applying for other jobs but finding something interesting, well paid and ideally part-time proved difficult. It was only after some coaching sessions with Break Free that I began to think about the possibility of setting up my own business. I’d always liked the idea of working for myself. But the thought of not having a product or specific skill to offer, coupled with a complete lack of business knowledge, had always put me off.During a coaching session with Karen Foy from Break Free, we explored what skills and talents I had that I could build a business on. The obvious then hit me! I had excellent organisational skills, boundless energy and love organising people. I could earn my living doing just that, but for myself rather than another company. After reading a newspaper article about someone who’d made a successful career of being a virtual PA, I realised that I had the skills, experience and abilities to do exactly the same. That realisation set me down an exciting path.

I have been putting all my efforts into setting up Pink Tall Ants Ltd, a company that offers virtual administrative assistance to new and small businesses. By eliminating the hassle and expense of employing someone, Pink Tall Ants Ltd enables business owners to spend more time doing what they do best and less time on boring administration.

From mail merging to meeting arrangement, article writing to proof reading, Pink Tall Ants Ltd offers a comprehensive administrative service. Businesses can use us from as little as one hour per week to several hours on a regular basis or even just for one off projects.

The great thing about using Pink Tall Ants Ltd is that you only pay for the time your job takes. There’s no covering the costs of lunch breaks, annual leave or sick days. With no additional costs for equipment, because Pink Tall Ants Ltd is based in its own office, can you really afford not to use us?

At times it’s felt a little daunting, especially when it comes to understanding the legalities and accountancy rules involved with setting up a limited company. But overall it’s been fantastic. I’m enjoying meeting new people and sharing the experiences of running a business. Most of all I love the flexibility that this job brings.

Some of the tasks can be done in the evenings and at weekends, leaving me available for other things during the day. I’m fortunate that I’ve had some excellent guidance from Bradford Chamber of Commerce; something which I hope continues as my business grows.

I would certainly recommend to anyone in this area looking at setting up their own business to make Bradford Chamber their first port of call. And of course if you are struggling to find your next role in life give Break Free a call, you never know where it might take you.
